Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
Ten people were stabbed on a London North Eastern Railway (LNER) train in a mass attack that prompted a massive emergency response. The violence erupted on the service traveling south from Doncaster to London King's Cross. Following an urgent distress call, the train was intercepted and halted at Huntingdon station in Cambridgeshire, where armed police swiftly moved to contain the situation.
Cambridgeshire Constabulary confirmed they were called at 7:39 pm local time with reports of multiple stabbings. The response was immediate and overwhelming; armed officers, alongside the British Transport Police (BTP), secured the station and train carriages. Two men were arrested at the scene and taken into police custody in connection with the appalling incident, though their identities and any potential motive are yet to be officially confirmed.
The aftermath revealed the severity of the attack: all ten victims were rushed to the hospital, with reports indicating that nine of them had suffered life-threatening injuries. This has led to the incident being officially declared a "major incident" by BTP. Witnesses aboard the train described scenes of intense panic, with passengers fleeing through the aisles, many of them covered in blood, and some resorting to hiding in washrooms to escape the perpetrator wielding a large knife.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer publicly condemned the "appalling incident" on X, expressing his deep concern and sending his thoughts to all those affected. He also praised the emergency services for their rapid and decisive response, urging the public in the area to comply with all police instructions as the investigation proceeds.
