Woman attempts suicide along with daughter in Hooghly, family blames it on SIR panic

In West Bengal's Dhanekhali over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, a heart-wrenching incident took place where a 27-year-old housewife residing in her maternal village of Somaspur-2 gram panchayat due to years of marital conflict, fed poison to her innocent young daughter before turning the vial on herself in a chilling suicide attempt. The incident creates sensation in the area. Both mother-daughter were rushed to Dhanekhali Rural Hospital in critical condition and further transferred to Kolkata's SSKM Hospital for advanced care. Their fates hang in a precarious balance, with doctors battling the toxins' relentless grip, while the woman's family blames it on panic over SIR process.

In a state already reeling from similar tales of fear-fueled tragedies, this incident isn't mere misfortune, amplifying the human cost of a process designed to empower.The family's unraveling narrative adds layers of raw anguish painting a portrait of isolation compounded by panic gone toxic. The housewife, who left his husband five or six years ago raising her daughter amid the daily grind of chores and unspoken sorrows. But the SIR drive, with its door-to-door distributions infiltrated her quiet refuge.

According to the houswife's brother, the other members of their family were recently given the SIR form, but she didn't never received the form. The woman was deeply stressed and anxious due to the lack of the form and the loss of contact with her in-laws. Family members said she often talked at home about not receiving the form. The family says that due to this mental depression, today morning she poisoned herself alongwith her to his daughter and commits suicide. Upon receiving information about the incident, Dhaniakhali TMC MLA Ashima Patra immediately rushed to the victim's home. She also informed the police and criticized BJP leaders over the incident, accusing them of spreading panic regarding the SIR
