A SpiceJet aircraft operating a flight from Mumbai to Kolkata was forced to execute an emergency landing late on Sunday night after the flight crew reported a severe technical snag in one of its engines during the descent phase. The incident, which prompted the declaration of a full emergency at the destination airport, concluded safely, with all passengers and crew disembarking without injury, according to officials at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport.
The flight, identified as SG 670, landed safely on the runway at 11:38 pm. Airport authorities confirmed that immediately after the aircraft touched down and rolled to a stop, the full emergency status that had been in effect was formally withdrawn.
According to Kolkata airport officials, the critical phase of the incident occurred as the aircraft was on its final approach to the city. The crew promptly alerted Air Traffic Control (ATC) after receiving indications of a failure in one of the engines.
