Class 6 girl dies after teacher forced to do 100 sit-ups for being late to school in Palghar, probe underway

In a gut-wrenching incident that's shaking Maharashtra's education circles, 11-year-old Anshika Gaud, a bright Class 6 spark from a quiet Palghar suburb, slipped away forever in a Mumbai hospital bed—just six days after her teacher allegedly forced her and four classmates to do 100 punishing sit-ups for arriving late to school. The incident, unfolding on November 8 at Shree Hanumant Vidya Mandir High School in Sativali near Palghar's Vasai area, has ignited raw anger among parents and activists, with Anshika's grieving mother pointing a trembling finger at the "inhuman" penalty that left her daughter unable to even stand, the 11-year-old child buckling under the weight of a heavy school bag strapped on during the torture.

What started as a routine scolding for latecoming turns into tragedy, spotlighting the dark underbelly of punishment in schools where kids should find safety, not suffering, and prompting a swift official probe to peel back the layers of this heartbreaking loss .As news rippled through the close-knit community, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Sachin More stepped up, blasting out at school's actions. The void left by Anshika's absence echoes in her mother's tear-streaked pleas to the press: "I was told that the students were punished for coming late to school. The teacher justified the punishment, saying the parents otherwise accuse them of not teaching the students despite paying fees, After the punishment, she experienced severe pain in her neck and back, and could not get up. I told the teacher that punishing the students does not mean forcing them to perform sit-ups with bags on their back. The teacher gave my daughter inhuman punishment, which led to her death".

Block Education Officer Pandurang Galange said an inquiry is being conducted into Anshika's death. This sorrowful saga isn't just one family's nightmare; it's a wake-up siren for India's schools, urging a rethink on how lateness is handled without crossing into cruelty. The ongoing investigation holds the key to accountability—will it bring quiet justice for Anshika, or just more whispers in the wind? For now, her story stirs a collective resolve: protect the young, punish the wrong ways, and let classrooms bloom with kindness, not commands that crush spirits too soon.
