A one-day-old baby fighting for life, his worried father, a young doctor and a nurse were burnt to death when an ambulance caught fire near Modasa town in Gujarat’s Arvalli district. The horrifying incident happened around 1 am today midnight while the tiny infant was being rushed from Modasa hospital to a better facility. Within minutes the entire rear of the ambulance became an inferno, trapping the four passengers who had no chance to escape.
Reportedly, the ambulance slowing down near a petrol pump after the driver noticed flames at the rear of the vehicle. The driver and two relatives of the newborn sitting in front managed to jump out with serious burns, but the doors at the rear got jammed or the flames spread too fast. Although the local fire brigade reached the spot shortly after being alerted.
Four victims, the newborn, father Jignesh Mochi (38), doctor Shantilal Rentia (30) and nurse Bhuriben Manat (23) were charred to death inside the ambulance, The injured driver Ankit Thakor and the baby's relatives Gaurang and Gitaben Mochi are critically injured and fighting for their lives in hospital now. Gujarat Police have sent the bodies for post-mortem and the forensic experts have been called in to determine what caused the fire and led to the tragedy.
