In a sharp and swift operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) Guwahati Frontier and Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) stopped a major heroin smuggling attempt on the national highway near Jalukbari in Guwahati. Acting on a secret information, the joint team laid a perfect trap and intercepted a white Hyundai Creta car coming from Manipur. When officers searched the vehicle thoroughly, they found 12 packets containing around 9 kilograms of pure heroin cleverly hidden in a secret compartment.
The driver, Ganesh Lal from West Bengal, was immediately arrested. He admitted that the packets contained heroin and that he was carrying it for a big smuggling gang. Along with the drugs worth nearly staggering Rs 18 crores in the illegal market, the police also seized the luxury Creta car (registration WB02AJ2203) and his smartphone.
Officials say the phone may give important clues about the entire smuggling network. This successful raid is being seen as a big victory in the fight against drugs entering India from across the border. BSF and NCB officers worked day and night, following every small lead, to make this operation possible. Locas hope more such actions will keep dangerous drugs away and make the north-east India safer.
