Today it turned into a scene straight out of a crime thriller when Baharampur police swooped down on the quiet stadium area and caught two suspicious people loitering with heavy bags. The duo—a young man named Mojjammel Mondal and a woman named Monika Bibi, both from Ghoshpara under Jalangi thana area—tried to talk their way out, but their shaky answers gave them away. When police officers opened their bags, in a shocking outcome, eight shiny 7.65 mm pistols, 110 live rounds, 16 cartridges, and fake notes worth Rs 10,000 recovers.
The arrest occurs in a broad daylight near Baharampur Stadium, a spot usually filled with morning walkers and sports lovers. Within minutes the area was cordoned off, the suspects were shoved into the police van with the deadly haul of huge arms and fake notes was rushed to the station. Locals gathered in shock—nobody expected such a dangerous consignment to pass through their peaceful neighbourhood.
Both accused were produced in Baharampur court today, where police demanded 10 days custody to crack the full network—who ordered the guns, where they were headed, and how many more bags are still out there. Murshidabad district's Additional SP Raspreet Singh confirmed the investigation is now in full swing and who else are involved with the accused duo. Murshidabad has seen similar busts before, but this one feels bigger because it mixes illegal arms with fake currency—two headaches that often fuel bigger crimes.
