Kolkata Police arrests two men accused of running a broker racket inside the city’s top government hospitals. Golam Rasul hailing from Silagram, P. O.-Margram area in Birbhum district was caught from SSKM Hospital while Sachin Routh, a resident of South Kolkata's Dr. Lalit Banerjee Sarani Kolkata 73 was picked up from Kolkata Medical College and Hospital. Both men allegedly used to cheat patients and their families by promising faster beds, quick doctor appointments, and test reports in exchange for money.
As per reports, the duo had been active for a long time and used to charge depending on the service. Poor patients coming from villages were their main targets. Many families complained that these brokers created panic by saying beds or operation dates would not be available without extra payment, even though treatment is free in government hospitals.
Upon several complaints, the police started investigating and arrests were made. Kolkata Police officers are questioning them to find out if more people are part of this racket. Authorities have promised stricter patrolling inside hospital campuses to stop such activities in future.
