A dramatic incident unfolded in Uttarpara’s Hind Motor Colony area when a woman was found sitting atop a banyan tree since last night. Residents of Ward No. 24 alerted the police after repeated attempts to persuade her to come down failed.
According to locals, the reasons behind her action remain unclear. Some claimed she climbed the tree out of fear related to the ongoing SIR process, while others suggested it was a symbolic protest against alleged tree cutting in the area. A few residents also suspected mental distress.
Police from Uttarpara Police Station reached the spot and spent considerable time convincing her to climb down safely. After continuous persuasion, the woman finally came down from the tree, bringing the tense situation under control.
Authorities are verifying the circumstances behind the incident, while local residents continue to debate the motive.
