Tension erupted in the Mathurdangi area of Ward No. 20 in Dankuni after a Bangladeshi youth allegedly attempted to enter the voter list using the census form of a deceased person. Locals caught the youth, identified as Nadeem, and handed him over to the police.
According to residents, Mohsin Khan died in 2015, yet Nadeem allegedly filled out and submitted a census form under his name. Mohsin’s elder brother, Maidul Khan, learned that the form had been accepted during the ongoing SIR process, leading to a commotion in the area on Wednesday night.
Nadeem reportedly claimed he had been living in Dankuni for 15 years and had earlier made a voter card by paying 4,000 taka. He further stated that during SIR verification, he obtained Mohsin’s census form in exchange for money and submitted it with his own photograph.
Police from Dankuni police station reached the spot, detained Nadeem and began investigating whether others were involved. Officials confirmed that he has been arrested on charges of forging documents.
