Another nightmare in the heart of Kolkata when a 15-year-old schoolboy while cycling to school from his house was crushed to death by a speeding private bus in Cossipore. The heartbreaking accident happened around 11 am today Cossipore BT Road. Ninth-grader Aranya Chakraborty from Baranagar was riding his bicycle as usual when a private 234 route bus suddenly lost control and rammed into him. The impact flung the boy onto the road, and the front left wheel ran over him.
Locals rushed the blood-soaked child to RG Kar Hospital but doctors could only declare him brought dead, leaving his family and neighbours shattered. Anger quickly replaced grief as residents blocked the road and surrounded the bus, refusing to let the driver escape. They accused traffic police of vanishing from the busy crossing exactly at peak busy hours, and slammed private buses for their deadly race to pick up more passengers. The bus has been seized but people fear it will be another case of justice delayed and denied.
Aranya was a bright student of Cossipore Kendriya Vidyalaya and the only child of his parents. His school bag and crushed bicycle lying on the blood-stained road became a painful reminder of how one moment of rash driving can destroy an entire family. Besides, there is competition among drivers and due to their careless attitude, a minor lost his life. The family and the entire area are in mourning over the death of the bright youth.
