No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
A fun evening at Baruipur’s famous Milan Mela turned into a nightmare when Golap Nandi from Sonarpur fell from the high-speed “Tsunami” joy ride and got badly hurt. Her raging mother, Rita Nandi, rushed to the police station and filed a complaint against the ride operator for pure negligence. She says the moment her daughter sat down, the safety belt came loose, but the staff members ignored her warnings and started the ride anyway. Golap is now in hospital with serious injuries while false stories spread that she fell while taking selfies or even jumped on purpose—claims that have left the family heartbroken and furious.
Rita Nandi is not holding back her anger at the fair organisers and local authorities and administration. She says people are spreading lies to save their own skin, and every false rumour is making her daughter feel worse. Locals have been complaining for years that the same ride had caused accidents in the past, yet nothing changed. Ticket prices keep going up for profit, but basic safety—like working belts and trained staff—remains ignored.
Many residents now fear more accidents if strict checks are not done immediately. Bengal police have accepted the complaint and started an investigation. People visiting the fair are being asked to be extra careful and immediately report any faulty equipment. For the Nandi family, what was meant to be a happy outing has become a fight for justice and better safety rules so no one else suffers the same pain.
