A bakery shop in Polgustia village under the Panchla Assembly constituency was violently attacked late Sunday night, allegedly due to an old business rivalry. According to locals, armed attackers stormed the area and hurled bombs while also firing shots, leaving four to five people injured. The shop owner, Akhtar Ali Malik, claimed the assailants arrived pretending to buy goods before launching the assault.
Malik alleged that Sheikh Safiullah, known locally as “Balai,” and his two sons led the group, along with 40 to 50 outsiders. He said nearly 20 to 25 bombs were detonated, spreading chaos across the village. Explosion marks on walls, roads and shopfronts were visible the next morning, reflecting the scale of the attack. Panic has since gripped residents, who fear further violence.
Following the incident, police from Jagatballabhpur police station reached the village with a large RAF team and cordoned off the area. Officers conducted searches throughout the night and are examining CCTV footage and other evidence. Police described the case as serious but have not confirmed a motive, though locals suspect an old dispute related to the bakery business.
As of now, no arrests have been made. Raids are ongoing in multiple locations, and investigators are working to identify and trace those involved in the coordinated attack.
