Team India fined 10% match fee for slow over-rate in 2nd ODI

The Indian cricket team was on Monday fined 10 per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate during the second One-Day International (ODI) against South Africa in Raipur. The match in question saw India lose, allowing South Africa to level the three-match series at 1-1, although India went on to win the final Visakhapatnam ODI to ultimately clinch the series title.

The sanction was imposed by Richie Richardson of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. His ruling determined that the Indian side, led by captain KL Rahul, was found to be two overs short of the stipulated target after all time allowances had been taken into consideration. According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, a penalty of five per cent of the players' match fees is levied for every over a team fails to bowl within the allotted time.

Captain KL Rahul immediately pleaded guilty to the offence leveled against his team and accepted the proposed sanction, eliminating the need for any formal hearing on the matter. The charge was leveled by the on-field umpires Rod Tucker and Rohan Pandit, alongside third umpire Sam Nogajski and fourth umpire Jayaraman Madanagopal.
