BJP gherao 'New TMC' MLA Sandipan Saha's house in Entally, protest over 'cut money'
A tragic and disturbing incident has surfaced in Chandannagar, where a woman was found dead weeks after her parents died by suicide. Chandannagar police recovered the body of 43-year-old Sharmistha Das from her home in the Baidypota area and sent it for post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death.
The case is linked to a family suicide attempt reported on June 6, when Sharmistha and her elderly parents, Ekendra Nath Das (87) and Sunita Das (83), allegedly consumed sleeping pills due to family problems. All three were found unconscious at their residence and rushed to Chandannagar Hospital.
The elderly couple later died during treatment, while Sharmistha’s condition improved and she was discharged from the hospital. At that time, she reportedly told police that the suicide attempt was linked to ongoing family distress.
On Tuesday, neighbours noticed a foul smell coming from the house and saw Sharmistha lying motionless inside through a window. The municipality and police were immediately informed.
Police from Chandannagar police station broke open the premises, recovered the body, and sent it to Chunchura Imambara Hospital for an autopsy. An investigation has been initiated to ascertain whether the death was suicide or occurred under other circumstances.
