The Bali Mahadev Jute Mill has been closed indefinitely following the issuance of a “suspension of work” notice on Wednesday morning. Although the mill had already remained closed on Tuesday, workers arriving for duty were met with the sudden announcement posted on the main gate. The abrupt closure has left nearly 1,000 workers without employment, triggering frustration and uncertainty among the workforce.
As the news spread, anger quickly mounted, prompting hundreds of workers to gather at the mill’s entrance demanding its immediate reopening. Their protest escalated into a road blockade on GT Road, halting traffic entirely and causing inconvenience to commuters and pedestrians. The unrest reflected the workers’ concerns over job security and the impact of the shutdown on their livelihoods.
Police from the Bali police station arrived at the scene to control the situation and engaged in prolonged discussions with the protesters. After nearly an hour of negotiation and assurances from authorities, the workers agreed to lift the blockade, allowing traffic to resume gradually and restoring normalcy to the area.
