Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty resigns, another massive blow to TMC
A chilling incident of daytime murder sent shockwaves through the Rajabazar area of North Kolkata on Monday morning. The victim, identified as 41-year-old Mehboob Alam (also reported as Mehtab Alam in some circles), was a local fruit seller and a resident of the nearby Narkeldanga area. The attack took place between 9:30 AM and 10:00 AM at his fruit stall on a busy street, where he was attending to his daily business.
Eyewitnesses reported that a group of unidentified youths arrived at the spot in a car and on motorcycles. A heated altercation broke out between the victim and the group, which quickly turned violent. Suddenly, the assailants produced sharp knives and began stabbing Mehboob repeatedly in full public view. The sheer brutality of the attack left onlookers paralyzed with fear, as no one was able to intervene before the attackers sped away from the scene.
Bloody and unconscious, Mehboob was rushed to the nearby NRS Medical College and Hospital by local residents. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival, noting several deep gashes on his body. The Amherst Street Police reached the site shortly after receiving the information and have cordoned off the specific stretch of the road where the crime occurred to preserve forensic evidence.
