Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
ASHA workers in Nadia district intensified their agitation on Wednesday by stopping work and staging a protest in front of the Ranaghat court. The demonstration was organised by the district ASHA workers’ union to press for an eight-point charter of demands, including a fixed monthly salary and pending allowances.
The protesters alleged that despite working for years and serving people round the clock, they have not received fair remuneration. They claimed that repeated representations to different government departments yielded no response, forcing them to resort to a work stoppage and public protest.
A key demand raised by the workers is a minimum monthly salary of ₹15,000. They also demanded that all existing allowances be paid regularly and that a one-time assistance of ₹5 lakh be provided to their families in case of death.
The ASHA workers warned that the agitation would continue if their demands are ignored. They maintained that their movement will not be withdrawn until the government accepts all eight demands and ensures dignity and financial security for frontline health workers.
