Cold intensifies across West Bengal, dense fog blankets Kolkata and other districts

A noticeable chill spread across West Bengal from early morning as northerly winds strengthened, marking a clear shift in winter conditions. Kolkata remained wrapped in dense fog since dawn, with sunshine failing to break through even as the day advanced, adding to the cold discomfort.

Though temperatures have not dropped sharply yet, the cold has intensified due to persistent winds. The Alipore Meteorological Department has indicated that temperatures are likely to fall gradually across many parts of the state over the next few days, potentially deepening the winter spell.

Fog has emerged as the primary concern. A fog alert has been issued for almost all districts of West Bengal for Tuesday and Wednesday. Visibility in several areas is expected to remain between 200 and 999 metres, significantly affecting daily movement.

In some districts, including North and South Dinajpur, Malda, Purulia, West Bardhaman and Birbhum, visibility may drop to below 50 metres. Authorities have warned that road and rail traffic could be disrupted due to poor visibility conditions.
