A horrifying attack unfolded at a rubber factory in Mishima, Shizuoka Prefecture, central Japan, on Friday afternoon. According to emergency service officials, a man armed with a knife launched a stabbing spree at the Yokohama Rubber Co. plant around 4:30 PM local time. The assailant did not stop at stabbing; he also sprayed an unidentified "spray-like liquid" on workers, adding a chaotic and dangerous chemical element to the violence.
Emergency responders were alerted by a nearby facility after reports emerged that multiple people had been stabbed and others were suffering from the effects of the sprayed liquid. Tomoharu Sugiyama, a firefighting official in Mishima, confirmed that 14 people were transported by emergency services to local hospitals. While the exact severity of all injuries remains under assessment, public broadcaster NHK reported that all victims remained conscious during their transfer.
Police acted swiftly and apprehended a man at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder. The factory, which manufactures tires for large vehicles like trucks and buses, was immediately cordoned off for forensic investigation. Authorities are currently trying to identify the chemical composition of the liquid used and determine the suspect's motive, including whether the attacker was an employee or an intruder.
