A shocking incident unfolded on the last Sunday of the year at a guest house on B.B. Ganguly Street in central Kolkata, where a woman was found lying in a pool of blood inside a rented room. The incident came to light around noon after the couple checked into the guest house earlier in the day.
The woman, a 38-year-old resident of North 24 Parganas, was staying with her boyfriend, identified as 40-year-old Pradeep Kumar Selvaraj, a resident of Chennai. Police said the two were in a romantic relationship. It is alleged that Pradeep stabbed the woman multiple times with a sharp weapon inside the locked room.
The victim suffered multiple injuries on her shoulder and arm. After the attack, the accused allegedly fled the guest house. Hearing groaning sounds from the room, the guest house staff alerted the police. Officers from Mochipara police station rushed to the spot and rescued the injured woman.
The accused was later arrested on charges of attempting to murder his girlfriend. The motive behind the attack is not yet clear, and police have launched an investigation into the incident.
