A pall of gloom descended on the Madhya Para area of Maheshtala’s Ward 30 following the recovery of the hanging bodies of a father and his minor son from their residence on Tuesday. The deceased have been identified as Bappa Naskar (40), a professional driver, and his son Rupam Naskar (14), a student of Class 8. The discovery was made by Bappa’s elderly father, whom Bappa had called the previous night, asking him to visit the house on Tuesday morning. When the father arrived and found no response, local residents helped peek through the window to discover the horrific scene.
According to family members and neighbors, Bappa had been suffering from severe mental distress due to ongoing domestic issues. Allegations have surfaced that his wife was involved in an extramarital affair, which had led to frequent altercations. Reportedly, the wife had left her husband and son several months ago to stay at her paternal home in Khardah. The family alleges that the psychological trauma of the separation and the social stigma surrounding the affair pushed Bappa to take this extreme step.
Upon receiving the news, the Maheshtala Police arrived at the scene and broke open the doors to recover the bodies. Both were rushed to Vidyasagar State General Hospital in Behala, where doctors officially declared them dead. Preliminary investigations suggest that Bappa might have killed his son before ending his own life. Two suicide notes were recovered from the spot, in which they reportedly stated that they were choosing this path themselves, though the police are examining the notes for further clues.
