A tragic fire incident in the North Bantra Rathatalla area of Howrah claimed the life of a 65-year-old woman on Thursday afternoon. The victim, identified as Everani Pal, was a resident of the Bantra police station area and lived alone in her house. The fire reportedly broke out while she was performing her daily prayers, leading to a fatal outcome that has left the local neighborhood in shock.
According to local sources, the fire was triggered when a lit oil lamp (diya) accidentally overturned during the ritual. The flames quickly spread to nearby inflammable materials in the room. Everani Pal, who suffered from mobility issues and was unable to walk properly, found herself trapped as the fire engulfed the premises. Despite the smoke and heat, she could not manage to escape the building in time.
Hearing the commotion and seeing smoke billowing from the house, neighbors rushed to the spot and immediately alerted the fire department. Firefighters arrived shortly after and managed to bring the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading to adjacent houses in the congested locality. However, by the time they could enter the house, the elderly woman had already succumbed to her injuries.
