A night of celebration turned into a nightmare at the Panihati Festival in Sodepur, where a 28-year-old man lost his life following a violent clash during a concert. The victim, Tanmoy Sarkar, a resident of Ghola Apurba Nagar, had gone to the Amravati ground on Sunday to watch a performance by popular Bollywood singer Ankit Tiwari. What began as a minor scuffle over dancing in a crowded space soon escalated into a fatal assault.
According to eyewitnesses, a push-and-shove occurred between Tanmoy’s group and another group while the audience was dancing to the music. Although the initial tension was momentarily defused by others present, the situation took a dark turn once Tanmoy left the fairground. It is alleged that the rival group intercepted him in a nearby alley and beat him mercilessly, leaving him in a critical condition before fleeing the scene.
Tanmoy was first rushed to the Panihati State General Hospital and later shifted to Sagar Dutta Medical College. As his health deteriorated further, he was moved to RG Kar Medical College Hospital, where he battled for his life for three days before succumbing to his injuries on Wednesday night. His family has since filed a formal murder complaint, alleging that the attack was a pre-planned conspiracy carried out by local miscreants.
