The Watch Section of the Detective Department (DD) has successfully cracked two high-profile theft cases in Kolkata, leading to the arrest of two individuals and the recovery of over ₹1.2 lakh in cash. In the first instance, the police arrested 26-year-old Md. Sahid Alam from Entally in connection with a theft at the Alipore Judges Court. The incident, which occurred in November 2025, involved the theft of ₹70,000 cash and important legal documents. Following a tip-off, the DD apprehended Alam on December 27, and subsequently recovered ₹56,500 from his possession.
In a separate operation, the DD team arrested Sk. Jainul Alam (30), also a resident of the Entally area, for a bold robbery at a petrol pump located at the Ruby crossing. The complainant, a resident of New Barrackpore, had reported that ₹80,000 was stolen from the petrol pump’s cash box in the early hours of October 21, 2025. After sustained interrogation following his arrest on December 27, the accused led the investigators to the recovery of ₹64,500.
Both investigations were spearheaded by the Watch Section, which relied heavily on credible source information and surveillance to track down the suspects. The officers noted that both accused individuals hailed from the same vicinity, though the crimes took place in different parts of the city. The successful recovery of a significant portion of the stolen money brings relief to the complainants who had been waiting for a breakthrough for months.
