A police team was attacked on Friday night while attempting to arrest an accused in a land dispute case in the Bayarmari area under Najat police station in Sandeshkhali, North 24 Parganas district. The incident left three police personnel, including an officer, injured, and a police vehicle was vandalised during the attack.
According to police officials, the action was taken after repeated notices were issued to a local resident, Musa, in connection with the land dispute. The notices were allegedly ignored, prompting the police to visit the area to take him into custody.
Police alleged that when the team tried to detain Musa, his supporters suddenly gathered and charged at the officers, helping him flee the spot. As the police attempted to stop the escape, local residents allegedly turned violent, attacking the personnel and damaging the police vehicle.
