In Jumki village of Egra-I block, East Medinipur, a robbery attempt was foiled by alert villagers on Friday night. Three criminals on a motorcycle tried to snatch a gold trader’s bag around 10 PM when he was returning home after closing his shop.
When the trader, Yeshu Kamila, resisted, the assailants attacked him with a large sharp cleaver, leaving him seriously injured. A local resident, Santu, tried to intervene near Chatla market but was also struck on the head by the criminals.
Hearing the commotion, a crowd of villagers and market-goers rushed to the scene, forcing the robbers to flee. The criminals abandoned their motorcycle, weapons, shoes, and jackets before escaping. Police have deployed a heavy force across the area to prevent further incidents.
