Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
The chairman of Egra Municipality in East Medinipur, Swapan Nayak, was arrested by police on Saturday on charges of corruption. Nayak is accused of illegally transferring government land, a case that had been under investigation for several months.
Authorities stated that the investigation was initiated following a complaint from the Department of Land and Land Reforms. The probe focused on alleged violations in the purchase and sale of government land and irregularities in the transfer process. Nayak had reportedly been staying outside Egra in recent days to avoid arrest.
Late Friday night, a special police team conducted a raid at a location in Kolkata and took Nayak into custody. After initial questioning, he was formally arrested and remains in police custody as the investigation continues.
