An old woman died after the roof of a three-storey building collapsed at Park Circus Lohapool area of Kolkata. The incident occurred at approximately 3 am at a residence located on Shamsul Huda Road in Ward No. 65. The family was asleep on the first floor of the old building when the roof suddenly collapsed, trapping the members under the debris.
Neighbors and local authorities rushed the victims to the nearby National Medical College Hospital. Unfortunately, Rabia Khatun was declared dead upon arrival due to a severe head injury. Three other family members, including a 9-year-old child named Ayesha Khatun, 16-year-old Umar, and 55-year-old Wahid Abdul, sustained serious injuries and are currently undergoing treatment in critical condition.
The local Trinamool councilor reached the spot at 7 am and expressed deep concern over the incident. He stated that the house was in a dilapidated and dangerous condition. According to the councilor and local residents, the owner of the property had been repeatedly warned and requested to carry out necessary repairs, but the warnings went unheeded.
