Arup Biswas is fearing arrest! Skips' appearance in Messi case citing illness
Tourists heading to the hills may be in for a treat as snowfall is likely in parts of Darjeeling district this week, according to the Alipore Meteorological Office. Officials said some areas could witness snowfall accompanied by rain, potentially covering hill roads, hotels and surrounding landscapes in a blanket of snow.
The cold spell has also tightened its grip on Kolkata and other parts of south Bengal. Since Sunday morning, residents have been experiencing biting cold conditions, with many shivering through the day. Despite the chill, the first Sunday of the year saw picnic gatherings across the city and nearby areas.
Weather officials noted that after December 31, Kolkata’s minimum temperature had risen slightly for two to three days, before a sudden change in conditions on Sunday. Early on Monday, the minimum temperature in the city was recorded at 12.5 degrees Celsius. However, the cold felt sharper than the actual reading, a phenomenon described as the “real feel.”
Cold conditions are expected to persist over the next few days, with temperatures likely to fall by another two to three degrees. North Bengal districts have been warned of dense fog throughout the week, raising concerns over low visibility. While Darjeeling may see rain or snowfall at isolated places, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong and Alipurduar could receive light rain. No rainfall is expected in south Bengal for now.
