A cricket match in Kaliachak turned violent when a dispute escalated into gunfire, leaving one person critically injured. Jalal Uddin Sheikh (37), also known as Lupu, was shot in the abdomen during the clash, while another person was injured after being hit on the nose with a gun’s butt.
The incident reportedly began as an argument over the game. Both the attacker and the victim are supporters of the Trinamool Congress. Local residents intervened and rushed the injured to Malda Medical College Hospital, where Lupu is currently in critical condition.
The Kaliachak police have launched an investigation. Lupu’s family alleges that Hidayat Sheikh, son of local Trinamool leader Babar Sheikh, fired the shot. Authorities have yet to arrest the accused, and police continue to gather evidence and witness statements from the scene.
