A road accident on Mumbai Road in Howrah on Tuesday morning claimed the lives of two people. The crash involved a chicken-laden truck that collided with a parked lorry, leaving the vehicle completely damaged.
The accident occurred around 6:15 a.m. near the Barunda area on the Kolkata-bound lane. At the time, the lorry was stationary without a driver inside. The truck, coming from Deulti, rammed into the rear of the parked vehicle, causing severe damage to its front portion.
The driver and his companion were trapped inside the cabin and died at the scene, while a helper was thrown onto the road and sustained injuries. The injured helper has been admitted to a nearby hospital. Authorities quickly recovered the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examination.
Police said the truck had collected chickens from a poultry farm in Navasan, first delivered them to Deulti, and was en route to Jaipur. Preliminary investigations suggest dense fog may have contributed to the crash, while officials are also checking for possible technical faults in the vehicle.
