No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
Kolkata Police have achieved a major breakthrough in their investigation into a woman and child trafficking gang. On Wednesday morning, the police confirmed the arrest of two accused from Kalyani in Nadia district.
The operation was carried out based on technical surveillance of mobile phones. Intelligence inputs and mobile location tracking led investigators to a café near ITI Morh in Kalyani, where both suspects were apprehended. They were later brought to Kolkata for detailed interrogation.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sathi Biswas, also known as Tina, a resident of Kalyani, and Tanmay Das, from Ramakant Mistri Lane, Muchipara, Central Kolkata. Police revealed that after earlier arrests in the case, the two had been hiding in Nadia.
Authorities said the interrogation aims to uncover other members of the trafficking network, determine the scale of the gang, and identify areas where women and children were trafficked. The police emphasized that these steps are crucial to dismantling the entire operation.
Police also indicated that further arrests are likely in the coming days, depending on the information revealed during questioning. The investigation continues with close monitoring of suspects and their connections across districts.
