Eight Trinamool MPs protest outside Amit Shah's office over ED raid row; allegedly assaulted by cops

A high-voltage political drama unfolded in the national capital on Friday as eight Members of Parliament from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) staged a protest outside Union Home Minister Amit Shah's office. The MPs, carrying placards with slogans like "Bengal rejects Modi-Shah’s dirty politics," were protesting against the alleged misuse of central agencies. The situation escalated quickly when Delhi Police moved in to disperse the gathering, leading to allegations from the TMC that their elected representatives were "assaulted" and physically manhandled.

The group of protesting lawmakers included prominent faces such as Derek O'Brien, Mahua Moitra, Satabdi Roy, Bapi Haldar, Saket Gokhale, Pratima Mondal, Kirti Azad, and Dr. Sharmila Sarkar. The party released a scathing statement on social media, questioning Home Minister Amit Shah's "arrogance" and accusing the government of being "rattled" by the dissent coming from Bengal. They claimed that a peaceful dharna was met with force, exposing the desperation of the ruling party to silence opposition voices.

This confrontation in Delhi served as a precursor to a major protest rally led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata. The TMC has linked these protests directly to the recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids at the I-PAC office and the residence of its chief, Pratik Jain. The party leadership argues that the back-to-back actions by central agencies and the Delhi Police are coordinated attempts to intimidate the party ahead of the upcoming electoral battles.
