PM will offer Anjali to Maa Durga this Ashtami in Kolkata, receives multiple invitations
Two Air India flights bound for the United Kingdom were diverted on Friday after severe weather disrupted airport operations, highlighting the widespread impact of Storm Goretti across parts of the region.
Flight AI131, operating from Mumbai to London Heathrow, was unable to land at its scheduled destination due to poor weather conditions. After holding over Heathrow, the crew diverted the aircraft to London Gatwick, where it landed safely. Passengers were provided assistance following the diversion, the airline said.
In a separate incident, Flight AI117 from Amritsar to Birmingham also faced difficulties amid adverse weather. Unable to land at Birmingham, the aircraft entered a holding pattern before diverting to London, where it sought and received permission for a priority landing as per standard procedures.
The diversions came as Storm Goretti brought strong winds, heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures across parts of the United Kingdom and Europe. Weather authorities issued high-level wind and snow warnings, cautioning residents about dangerous conditions and significant disruption to transport services.
The storm has severely affected travel across the region, with airports facing operational challenges, rail services disrupted and power outages reported in some areas. Authorities have urged the public to avoid non-essential travel while airlines continue to monitor conditions and adjust operations.
