An unusual situation emerged at the Calcutta High Court on Friday when the hearing of a politically sensitive case involving the Trinamool Congress and the Enforcement Directorate could not be conducted due to severe overcrowding inside the courtroom. The packed hall and rising commotion made it impossible for the court to proceed with the matter.
Justice Shubra Ghosh, who was hearing the case, repeatedly urged lawyers not directly connected to the proceedings to step outside so that order could be restored. Despite her requests, the number of lawyers and attendees continued to swell, leading to persistent noise and a tense atmosphere inside the courtroom.
Observing that judicial proceedings could not continue in such disorderly conditions, Justice Ghosh left the courtroom without hearing arguments. The court subsequently adjourned the matter and scheduled the next hearing for January 14.
