BJP West Bengal president Samik Bhattacharya on Friday launched a sharp political attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, claiming her style of governance has damaged the state’s image nationally. He said the country is questioning the purpose of protests staged outside Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s office, calling them politically hollow.
Speaking in Siliguri after arriving from Kolkata, Bhattacharya alleged that the Trinamool Congress is rattled amid the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. He claimed the ruling party, surrounded by corruption allegations, is functioning in fear and panic and has lost respect for constitutional norms.
Bhattacharya asserted that while the West Bengal government has sidelined constitutional values, the BJP is fighting to protect democracy and democratic institutions. He said the growing unrest reflects public dissatisfaction and signals a demand for political change in the state.
Taking a jibe at Mamata Banerjee’s sit-in protest in Kolkata, Bhattacharya said such demonstrations are not new. He remarked that the Chief Minister has protested earlier and will continue to do so, adding that she would “exit politics while sitting on a protest stage.” He further mocked her political journey by saying she is “walking on a ramp towards her final journey.”
On questions surrounding Abhishek Banerjee’s name in a chargesheet, Bhattacharya said the BJP does not depend on agencies like ED or CBI for politics. He claimed Trinamool Congress’s defeat is inevitable and asserted that the party would fail to open its account in North Bengal in the coming elections.
