Murshidabad police have arrested four people, including two women, and seized 5.287 kilograms of heroin from a rooftop drug factory. The seized narcotics are estimated to be worth nearly three crore rupees in the international market.
The raid was conducted in the Kabilpur Koelpara area of Sagaradighi after police received a tip-off about illegal heroin production. A special team from Sagaradighi police station, led by IC Sumit Biswas, raided the house Wednesday night and caught the accused red-handed.
The arrested have been identified as Rakibul Sheikh, his wife Momina Bibi, Haseena Bibi, and Ibrahim Sheikh of Lalgola. Investigations revealed Ibrahim Sheikh had been secretly running the factory at his sister’s house. Police also recovered equipment and materials used to produce heroin.
Authorities confirmed the heroin was intended for both local and interstate markets. Cases under the NDPS Act have been filed, and the four accused were sent to ten days of police custody. Investigators are now tracing the gang’s ringleader and the supply chain.
