Trinamool Congress national general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee has strongly criticized the BJP-led central government, accusing it of attempting to crush democracy in Bengal. He said, “When power is pursued through narrow, self-serving ambitions, democracy becomes the first casualty.”
Banerjee alleged that the BJP, having failed to gain the trust of Bengal’s people, is now resorting to fear and repression, targeting citizens’ voting rights and silencing dissent. He described these actions as a direct attack on the foundation of democratic values.
The MP further stated that democratic institutions are being bent to partisan will, dissent is being criminalized, and even ordinary citizens are coerced into living under fear. He emphasized that questioning authority is increasingly treated as a punishable act, undermining the spirit of free expression.
Highlighting the significance of Nadia, he said the land’s faith, love, and spiritual consciousness send a clear message: Bengal is ready to end the era of Zamindari oppression. Banerjee reaffirmed the state’s resolve to protect rights and restore democratic norms.
“With the blessings of our Maa, Mati, Manush, Bengal will rise, reclaim its rights, and restore its democratic pride,” Banerjee declared, signaling Trinamool Congress’ commitment to defending citizens’ constitutional rights in every possible forum ahead of upcoming political contests.
