Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of the Intelligence Department of the Barrackpore Police Commissionerate and New Barrackpore police conducted a raid in the Sajirhat area along the Sodepur–Madhyamgram Road, leading to the arrest of two persons with a large quantity of cannabis.
During the operation, police intercepted a suspicious vehicle and carried out a search. A total of 37 kg 12 grams of cannabis-like prohibited narcotic substance was recovered from the vehicle. Two youths were taken into custody at the spot. The arrested accused were identified as Prasenjit Barman (28) and Ayub Ali (22), both residents of Cooch Behar district.
Police seized the contraband and the vehicle after completing legal formalities under the NDPS Act. A case has been registered, and investigations are underway to trace the source and intended destination of the consignment and identify others linked to the network.
