The 'green file' mystery deepens as CM Mamata faces ED scrutiny

Bengal politics is witnessing a sharp escalation after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was seen holding a green file during an Enforcement Directorate (ED) raid at I-PAC founder Pratik Jain’s residence. The file reportedly contained a list of names with headings, which the ED alleges may be linked to financial irregularities.

The ED claims the document was a crucial piece of evidence in its ongoing investigation into alleged illegal coal smuggling and related financial transactions. Officials allege that despite repeated requests, the Chief Minister took the file with her, and some other documents may have also been removed prior to official seizure.

Mamata Banerjee has strongly denied the ED’s allegations, asserting that the agency was attempting to seize her party’s internal documents and election strategy. Eyewitnesses reported seeing her carry a transparent green file, where papers and a list of names were visible. She framed the move as an attack on the party’s democratic rights.

I-PAC, a strategic advisory group for the Trinamool Congress and the state government, often houses party-related documents, including potential candidate lists for upcoming elections. While the ED considers the file a key investigative lead, the Trinamool Congress insists it is a politically motivated attempt to undermine the party ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.

The controversy has drawn national attention, with the opposition criticizing the state government and TMC defending the Chief Minister. The focus now remains on whether the contents of the green file will be disclosed or if it will continue to shape political narratives leading up to 2026.
