BJP alleges attack by Trinamool supporters in Lake Town during rally preparation

Tensions escalated in the Lake Town area along Jessore Road on Sunday when a group of BJP workers and supporters were allegedly assaulted while preparing for an upcoming 'Sankalp Sabha'. The workers were in the process of putting up party flags, hoardings, and banners to decorate the venue and nearby stretches. According to witnesses, a group of bike-borne individuals, identified by the victims as Trinamool Congress (TMC) supporters, suddenly arrived at the spot and began tearing down the promotional materials.

The situation turned violent when the assailants reportedly began attacking the BJP workers with sticks. Eye-witness accounts suggest that the attackers did not spare anyone, including women workers who were part of the preparation team. Several people sustained injuries in the indiscriminate thrashing. The injured workers were immediately rushed to the Bidhannagar Sub-divisional Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment for their wounds.

The BJP has raised serious allegations against the local police administration. Victims claimed that the assault took place in the presence of police officers who allegedly stood by as "mute spectators" and failed to intervene to stop the violence. The saffron party leaders have condemned the incident, calling it a desperate attempt by the ruling party to stifle democratic activities in the area ahead of their mega event.

On the other hand, local TMC leadership has denied the allegations, calling the incident a result of an internal feud within the BJP or a spontaneous reaction from residents. However, the heavy presence of police has been deployed on Jessore Road to prevent further escalation of the conflict. The BJP has threatened to launch a larger protest if the culprits are not identified and arrested immediately based on the hospital statements of the injured workers.
