The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) has brought a wave of excitement to North Bengal by officially relaunching the much-loved 'Jungle Safari' toy train service. Starting from the second Sunday of 2026, this iconic journey has resumed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The service is specifically designed to cater to the weekend rush of tourists and locals looking to explore the foothills of the Himalayas. For now, the train will operate twice a week—on Saturdays and Sundays—along with special runs on public holidays.

The Jungle Safari is curated as a comprehensive package system for travelers. The train departs from Siliguri Junction at 10:00 AM and travels directly to Gayabari. The route is famed for its breathtaking views, taking passengers through the heart of the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary. This stretch offers a rare opportunity to spot wild elephants, bisons, and deer in their natural habitat, and if luck favors, a glimpse of the elusive leopard or tiger amidst the dense greenery.

Key attractions along the route include stops at picturesque stations like Sukna, Rongtong, and Tindharia. Passengers are treated to the sight of lush green tea gardens and the famous 'Paglajhora' falls. The slow-moving toy train allows tourists to soak in the serene atmosphere and capture the architectural marvel of the century-old narrow-gauge tracks. The relaunch is expected to significantly boost the local tourism economy, which thrives on the heritage status of the DHR.
