A 24-year-old woman narrowly escaped a gang-rape in Purnia after using the main accused’s mobile phone to call Dial 112, reports say. The incident occurred in the Dagarua police station area, leaving the local community shocked. Prompt police action prevented further harm and led to the arrest of the primary suspect.
The victim was allegedly abducted near Newalal Chowk in the Sahyak Khajanchi police station area by Mohammed Junaid in a Swift Dzire. She was then taken to a garage in Dagarua and locked inside. According to reports, Junaid, Mohammed Irfan, his driver Mohammed Istabar, and three unidentified men forced the victim to dance before taking turns raping her.
After the other accused were sent away, Junaid allegedly continued to assault the victim while intoxicated. Seizing a chance when he fell asleep, the woman used his phone to call 112. Police reached the location immediately and arrested Junaid, preventing further assaults and exposing the crime.
Authorities confirmed that Junaid has prior criminal cases registered against him and was already under surveillance. The gang-rape case has been filed under section 70 and other relevant provisions, and police are intensifying raids to apprehend the remaining suspects.
Purnia SP Sweety Sehrawat said the matter is being treated with utmost seriousness. Investigations are ongoing, and the police have assured swift action to bring all accused to justice, emphasizing the role of quick emergency response in saving lives.
