No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
A war-like situation unfolded in Chakulia of Uttar Dinajpur district on Thursday after a violent mob attacked the BDO office during an ongoing hearing related to the voter list. The protesters vandalised the premises and set parts of the office on fire, forcing the hearing process to be abruptly halted.
According to reports, tensions flared after allegations surfaced that voters were being harassed and officials were behaving improperly during the hearing. The situation soon spiralled out of control, with miscreants torching the BDO office and the adjacent Bangla Sahayata Kendra, reducing office furniture and important documents to ashes.
Several police personnel were injured while attempting to control the mob. Taking note of the seriousness of the incident, Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Agarwal directed the District Magistrate of Uttar Dinajpur to immediately register an FIR, reports said.
