Mayapur ISKCON lodges FIR against fake websites duping devotees by offering cheap room bookings

ISKCON has filed an FIR after a surge in complaints from devotees and tourists who were cheated while trying to book accommodation in Mayapur, a major pilgrimage centre near Kolkata. The fraud has affected visitors from across India and abroad, especially during peak festival seasons.

According to temple authorities, several devotees lost money after making advance payments through fake websites and unauthorised online channels claiming to offer rooms in well-known Mayapur guest houses. Many only realised the fraud upon reaching the pilgrimage town.

ISKCON officials said multiple fake websites and WhatsApp booking channels have been created by fraudsters, who lure visitors with promises of special facilities and discounted rates. The scams have caused distress to families travelling with elderly members and children.

Clarifying the booking process, ISKCON stated that there is only one official and authorised platform for booking rooms in Mayapur. Any booking made through other websites, agents, phone calls or messaging apps has been declared unsafe and unauthorised.

Temple spokesperson Radharaman Das said the matter has been reported at the highest level. Police and cyber crime officials have confirmed that an investigation is underway to identify those behind the fraudulent operations.
