ED files charge sheet against Al-Falah University chairman, trust attaches ₹139 cr assets

The Enforcement Directorate has filed a chargesheet against Al-Falah University chairman Jawad Ahmed Siddiqui and the family-run Al-Falah Charitable Trust in a money laundering case linked to the November 10 terror attack near Delhi’s Red Fort. Assets worth ₹139 crore, including large land parcels within the university campus, have also been attached under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

Officials said the chargesheet was filed before a competent court and includes evidence pointing to alleged financial irregularities involving the university and its controlling trust. The attached properties span nearly 58 acres, including a 54-acre parcel located within the Al-Falah campus in Faridabad.

The probe agency has alleged that firms controlled by Siddiqui’s family received contracts related to hostel catering and construction work at the university and its hospital complex. It has further claimed that university funds were diverted for land acquisition by the charitable trust and related entities.

Siddiqui was arrested earlier on money laundering charges after investigators alleged that the university made fraudulent and misleading claims regarding accreditation to generate unlawful gains. The agency has stated that such practices allegedly resulted in proceeds of crime running into several hundred crore rupees.

The case is linked to a wider investigation into a suspected white-collar terror module. The university came under scrutiny after a doctor associated with its medical college carried out a suicide car bombing near the Red Fort on November 10 last year, killing at least 11 people. The terrorism angle is being probed separately.

Investigators have also flagged undisclosed related-party transactions, foreign-linked entities, and possible regulatory violations. According to officials, the investigation into Al-Falah University, the charitable trust, and associated persons is ongoing.
