Residents-promoter clash in Howrah's Chunabhatti, several suffer injuries

A long-standing dispute between residents and the promoter of a residential complex in Chunabhatti near Andul Road, Howrah, turned violent leaving several people injured. The complex, built about two years ago, comprises 60 flats across two blocks. Disagreements over maintenance and other issues had persisted despite multiple meetings between the promoter and residents.

According to residents, tensions escalated during a recent meeting, when the promoter, Sheikh Sakib, and his associates allegedly launched a physical attack on the residents. Chairs were reportedly used as weapons, and women present at the meeting were allegedly harassed. Several injured residents were admitted to a local hospital. A video of the violent clash has gone viral on social media, sparking outrage in the area.

Both sides have approached the Nazirgunj police station, and an FIR has been filed. While residents allege the promoter’s team initiated the attack, a relative of the promoter claimed the residents were responsible. Police have begun a formal investigation into the incident to determine the sequence of events and hold those responsible accountable.
