A brutal murder was reported in Priyadarshini Apartments, 396/9 Becharam Chatterjee Road, Behala, Kolkata, where 68-year-old Anita Ghosh was found dead with multiple stab wounds. Police suspect that her throat may have been slit. Anita’s bedridden husband, Arup Ghosh, 72, a retired gazetted officer from Doordarshan, was unable to respond due to long-term illness. The incident has created fear in the neighborhood.
The couple’s domestic staff, including a cook and an ayah, were present at the flat and have been taken into custody by Behala Police for questioning. According to local sources, Anita Ghosh’s body was discovered by the cook in Block B of the apartments. Police are conducting a thorough investigation into the scene, collecting evidence, and recording witness statements.
Family members indicated that the murder could have been motivated by money, as about one lakh rupees was reportedly kept at home for daily expenses. Anita’s husband has dementia and has been bedridden for eight years, unable to recognize family members. The family suspects that the perpetrator may have targeted the couple due to their vulnerability.
Anita Ghosh was a respected music teacher and singer who had performed on Doordarshan. Her sudden death has left the local community in shock, with neighbors describing the incident as both cruel and horrifying.
