Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty resigns, another massive blow to TMC
Tension flared outside the SDO office in Asansol on Monday after a heated argument between Trinamool Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party activists over the submission of Form 7 escalated into a scuffle. The clash led to chaos in the area, prompting concerns over the voter list revision process.
TMC councillor Ashok Rudra alleged that the BJP was attempting to remove the names of thousands of valid voters from the electoral roll in the Asansol South Assembly constituency. He claimed that BJP workers had brought a large number of pre-filled Form 7 documents in a vehicle with the intention of deleting voters’ names, prompting TMC workers to stage a protest.
Rejecting the allegations, BJP’s former councillor Bhrigu Thakur accused the TMC of deliberately obstructing the process. He said the Form 7 submissions were meant to remove the names of illegal and deceased voters and claimed that during the confrontation, the documents were set on fire. Tension prevailed for some time before the situation was brought under control, reports said.
